History

Amerlia County, Virginia is rich in American history. During the Revolutionary War, Amelia was raided by British troops under the leadership of General Tarleton. Later, the last major battle of the Civil War was fought at what is now Sayler's Creek Battlefield State Park.
 

Sayler's Creek Battlefield State Park - This 220 acre battlefield commemorates the battle that took place April 6, 1865, just 72 hours before Lee's surrender in Appomattox.
