History
Rich in history, charm and character, Halifax Co.VA grew up around the early stage coach routes. Mos of the buildings in town have been in existence since the late 1800's. Like most Virginia counties, Halifax is home to Revolutionary, Civil War and Civil Rights historical sites.

Stauntion River Battlefield - 300 Acre Civil War historic site of the Battle of Saunton River that took place July 25, 1864. Explore the battlefield, nature walking trails, wildlife tower and the visitor center.

Berry Hill Resort - A two-story Greek revival mansion that was once home to the fourth Govenor of Virginia and signer of the the Declaration of Independance, among many other notable Virginian families. Today it a stellar retreat, featureing 92 guest rooms, a full service spa and world class cuisine.

Clarkston Bridge - Built in 1902, this through-truss bridge spans 690' across the Staunton River, connecting the counties of Halifax and Charlotte. This bridge was closed in 1999 and efforts are underway to restore and protect this as a scenic landmark.

Noland Village - This is a charming restoration of an early American crossroads community. This walk through village offers a glimpse into the past and a change to experience our nation's history.

Recreation
Buggs Island Lake 
- This lake is the largest freshwater lake in Virginia, consisting of 48,900 acres. Activities include fishing, boating, camping and hunting.

Staunton River State Park - Located between the Dan and Staunton Riers at the threshold of Buggs Island Lake.  The park includes an Olympic size pool, campgrounds, cabins, nature tails and more.

Virginia International Speedway - 4.2 natural terrain road racing track that attracts racing entusiasts with its excitement and variety. This is also home to the Motorsport Academy and the Virginia Institute for Performance Engineering and Research.
