Staunton River State Park
Staunton River Battlefield State Park is a 300-acre historic site where an outnumbered group of Confederate soldiers held off and defeated invading Union cavalry whose goal was to destroy the nearby railroad bridge. Visitors to the park can walk the historic bridge, see reenactments and living history programs, enjoy hiking and multi-use trails and learn about the native Americans that once inhabited the area. Since the park is near both Occoneechee and Staunton River State Parks, which offer camping and more extensive hiking and trails.
