Appomattox Court House National Historical Park

The Appomattox Court House National Historical Park consists of nearly 1700 acres the focal point of which is the village of Appomattox Court House.  The village has been preserved and restored exactly the way it stood on April 9, 1965, commemorating the surrender that reunited our nation and brought an end to the Civil War.

The McLean House is among the buildings at Appomattox Court House National Historical Park that have been restored to their 1865 condition. It is in the parlor of this home that General Lee and General Grant negotiated the terms of the surrender. Also restored is the Courthouse which now houses a visitor's center with displays and slide shows that depict the circumstances and the monumental events that took place here.

Other sites outside the village include the Confederate Cemetery, North Carolina Monument and Charles Sweeney's Cabin.
