Sailor's Creek Battlefield State Park

 

This 220-acre battlefield commemorates the battle that took place April 6, 1865, just 72 hours before Lee's surrender in Appomattox. Nearly aquarter of General Robert E. Lee's army (over 7,700 men) was killed, wounded or captured during this battle, which would become know as Black Thursday of the Confederacy. Exhibits at Sailor's Creek Battlefield State Park feature artifacts associated with the battle of Sailor's Creek.

Sailor's Creek Battlefield State Park also features the Overton-Hillsman Farm House Museum, which served as the Union field hospital during this battle.
